Our Philosophy

We are here to help you close the gap between where you are today and the complete player you are meant to become. That journey starts from within. The mental side of the game is everything. In futbol, and in life, success is built on a relentless work ethic, discipline, dedication, and commitment.

When your mindset is right, everything else follows. Your physical strength, technical quality, and tactical understanding will grow because you are willing to push yourself every day. Each of these areas has its own identity, and we will challenge you, guide you, and support you as you unlock them.

This journey will demand effort, focus, and belief—but the reward is growth. Growth as a player. Growth as a competitor. Growth as a person.

We are ready to start this journey with you. The question is—are you ready?

Co-Founder & Lead Trainer

For me, futbol has never been just a game—it has been a way of life. Through the sport, I have learned lessons that go far beyond the field, shaping my character, discipline, and resilience. Just like in life, the game consistently places you in challenging moments that test your limits. It is in those moments of adversity where true character is revealed, where perseverance is built, and where the willingness to push through obstacles is developed.

At 1v1 Training, I am deeply committed to preparing and guiding young athletes through these same challenges. My mission is to support their growth by focusing on attention to detail, a strong and positive work ethic, a competitive mindset, and—most importantly—respect for the process and a genuine commitment to long-term development.

A defining part of my own journey was having the opportunity to be coached during my youth by Michael Varas, current Head Coach of San Diego FC (MLS), and Luciano Fusco, current Assistant of San Diego FC, and previously at San Jose Earthquakes. Those experiences shaped the way I see the game and the role of a coach, and they continue to influence my philosophy and standards today.

Coaching Experience:

  • Burlingame Soccer Club 2010-2013

  • Force North 2013-2015

  • Nueva School 2015-2016

  • Star Academy FC 2017-2022

Coaching Education

I am a former NCAA Division I futbol player at Santa Clara University and a product of the Sacramento Republic Academy. I had the privilege of serving as a two-time team captain during the 2021 and 2022 seasons, experiences that played a meaningful role in shaping my leadership, consistency, and approach to the game at the Division I collegiate level.

Following my playing career, I have spent the past four to five years coaching with Bay Area Surf, working with multiple age groups and competing at the highest levels of youth soccer. My coaching philosophy is deeply influenced by my journey as a player and is rooted in long-term player development. I am passionate about sharing the lessons the game has taught me and about positively impacting young athletes, both on and off the field. I see futbol as a powerful tool for teaching not only technical and tactical concepts, but also discipline, accountability, resilience, and values that carry far beyond the game.

I was honored to be named First Team All-Academic in the West Coast Conference in 2022 and to receive multiple WCC All-Academic recognitions throughout my collegiate career.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics with a concentration in Data Analysis and a minor in International Business.

  • Master’s degree in Finance and Analytics from Santa Clara University.

  • USSF B License, expected to complete in 2026.

1v1 Training took my game to another level. The focus on small details and repetition made me more comfortable on the ball and more confident in tight spaces, and more effective in real game situations. Yvan helped make the weaknesses I had in my game improve with each session, catering towards getting 1% better every time.
